FR.01.01 Blue Vision Pattern-ERG for early glaucoma screening Kandzia C., Huang Y., Roider J. Klinik für Ophthalmologie des Universitäts-Klinikums Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Kiel, Kiel Objective: Changes in tritan colour defects as well as in pattern-ERG examination are early parameters for diagnosis of glaucoma in an otherwise inconspicious picture. We try to combine both effects by using a Blue Vision P-ERG for patients with suspected glaucoma. Methods: We examined 26 healthy test persons' eyes and 58 patients' eyes with clinically suspected glaucoma. First we used the classic P-ERG, then the examination was repeated with a cobalt blue filter fixed before the eyes. The patients are divided into 3 groups: patients with normal visual field in perimetry, those with slightly defective visual field in perimetry and those with typical glaucoma visual field in perimetry. The amplitudes of the P-ERG tests were compared and the difference between the both summation of potentials statistically caculated. Results: In healthy test persons the amplitude of the B-P-ERG was reduced to a value of 0.34 compared to the normal P-ERG. This can be considered as normal since the filter reduces brightness as well as the number of recruited cones. In the group of suspected glaucoma patients the amplitude of the B-P-ERG was significantly reduced to appr. 0.1 and in the group of clinically diagnosed glaucoma even a lower value. Conclusions: Our results suggest a higher sensitivity of our method compared to examinations such as the tritan colour test according to Arden or the conventional P-ERG, and encourage us to assume that this kind of examination can become a sensitive screening method in glaucoma diagnostics.
