Abstract
FR.06.12 Intraocular pressure measurements after myopic LASIK using dynamic contour tonometry and Goldmann applanation tonometry Muller L., Kohnen T. Department of Ophthalmology, Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University, Frankfurt am Main, Germany Objective: Thinning of the corneal stroma by laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) may influence the intraocular pressure (IOP) readings. The purpose of this study was to compare IOP measurements using dynamic contour tonometry (DCT) and Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT) in eyes undergoing LASIK for correction of myopia. Methods: IOP using GAT and DCT was measured in 26 eyes before and 1 month after LASIK for myopia. The preoperatively spherical equivalent was -4.58±1.87 D. LASIK surgery reduced the central corneal thickness by 77.0±27.9 µm (median ±SD). Results: IOP readings were significant higher with DCT than with GAT preoperatively (median difference ±SD: 2.5±2.4 mm Hg) and 1 month after LASIK (4.5±1.2 mm Hg). Postoperatively, GAT measurements were reduced by 3.1±1.8 mm Hg (P<0,001). In contrast, the mean DCT measurements dropped only by 1.1±2.5 mm Hg (P=0.03). Conclusions: Significant decreases in IOP were recorded by GAT and DCT 1 month after LASIK for myopia. GAT measurements appeared to be influenced more from structural corneal changes induced by LASIK than DCT measurements.
