Abstract
DO.01.11 Intravitreal triamcinolone adjuvant to pars plana vitrectomy for macular pucker Kreusel K.-M. Augen-Zentrum, DRK Kliniken Westend, Berlin Objective: The effect of an adjuvant intraocular administration of triamcinolone on the visual recovery after pars plana vitrectomy for macular pucker was evaluated. Methods: In a consecutive series of 11 eyes 4 mg triamcinolone was administered intravitreally after conventional 3-port pars plana vitrectomy for macular pucker. The postoperative visual recovery was compared retrospectively to a series of 38 eyes operated on without application of triamcinolone. Both groups had a comparative preoperative visual acuity (0.31 vs. 0.30, p=0.29). Results: Without adjuvant triamcinolone visual acuity 6 weeks postoperative was unchanged as compared to preoperative VA (p=0.15). In the group receiving triamcinolone intraoperatively VA was 0.56±0.1 6 weeks postoperatively (p=0.004; compared to no triamcinolone). After 6 months, VA was comparable in both groups (0.6 vs. 0.52, p=0,2). In the triamcinolone group, a transient rise of mean IOP after 6 weeks to 17.3 mm Hg was seen, compared to 12.2 mm Hg in the no triamcinolone groupe (p=0.04). Conclusions: Intravitreal administration of triamcinolon may accelerate recovery of vision after vitrectomy for macular pucker.
