SA.05.03 Evaluation of results after diode-laser treatment in newborns with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) Rudolph G., Pietschmann M., Buhl M., Boergen K.-P., Kampik A. Eye Hospital Ludwig-Maximilians-University München Objective: Evaluation of the morphological and functional outcome after diode-laser treatment in newborns with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Methods: In a retrospective study data of 61 children treated with diode-laser due to retinopathy of prematurity were evaluated. Follow-up data could be collected from 47 children. Functional data, the morphological situation, motility as well as data concerning the gestational age and duration of oxygen supplementation were collected. Results: The mean gestational age of the newborns was 24,93 (±1,59) weeks. The mean birth weight was 683 (±174)g. The duration of oxygen supplementation was 5 to 150 days. Diode-laser treatment was performed at a mean age of 36,14 gestational weeks. Visual outcome was "good" according to age in 82% of the treated children. More than 50% of the children presented with strabism. A favorable outcome in term of the anatomical situation was seen in 90% of the children. In comparison to term born babies or preterm infants without ROP the diode-laser treated children showed a high rate of myopia (58,8%). Conclusions: In comparison to the Cryo-ROP study children treated with diode-laser showed a "favorable outcome" in 90% in term of the anatomical situation. 58,8% of the children presented with myopia. Diode-laser treatment is effective in newborns with retinopathy of prematuriy.
