Grußwort des Präsidenten der DOG
Sehr geehrte Frau Kollegin,
sehr geehrter Herr Kollege,
 ich heiße Sie herzlich zur 104. Jahrestagung
der Deutschen Ophthalmologischen
Gesellschaft hier in Berlin willkommen.
Hauptthema ist „Ophthalmologie in der
alternden Gesellschaft – Herausforderung
und Chance“. „Ageing“ ist ein Überthema,
ein Megatrend. Gerade im sich demographisch
wandelnden Deutschland müssen wir uns
als Fachgesellschaft damit auseinandersetzen,
dass wir in der Augenheilkunde überproportional
mit Erkrankungen befasst sind, die einer Altersprogression
unterliegen. Viele wissenschaftliche Beiträge
beschäftigen sich daher mit Erkrankungen
wie Makuladegeneration, Glaukom oder Katarakt.
Daneben werden in Symposien, Kursen und Vorträgen
aber auch Fragen der Sozioökonomie und
Krankheitskostenentwicklung oder von Screening
und primärer und sekundärer Prävention behandelt,
die uns immer stärker beschäftigen werden.
Die Symposien versprechen mit ihren Programmen
eine Präsentation der Augenheilkunde auf
hohem wissenschaftlichem Niveau. Aber auch für
die praktische Ophthalmologie werden in Referaten
Themen der gesamten Augenheilkunde in „State of the Art“-Manier dargestellt. Das Wetlab-Programm wurde erheblich erweitert und durch
Fortgeschrittenenkurse für Phakoemulsifikation,
Glaukomchirurgie und Keratoplastikkurse komplettiert.
Die Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses
ist mir ein besonderes Anliegen. Erstmals
werden daher Kurse zur Karriereplanung in der
Ophthalmologie, Drittmitteleinwerbung,wissenschaftlicher
Publikation und Präsentation angeboten.
Das vielleicht wichtigste Ziel einer Tagung aber ist,
dass alle Gruppen miteinander kommunizieren,
um Ideen und Konzepte für zukünftige Forschung,
aber auch die Wissenschaftspolitik zu erhalten.
Damit wird schon bei der Auftaktveranstaltung
begonnen, die dieses Mal eine Podiumsdiskussion
mit prominenten Vertretern aus Forschung, Politik
und Wirtschaft zur Situation der wissenschaftlichen Augenheilkunde vorsieht.
Neben allen wissenschaftlichen Anstrengungen
soll aber das Gemeinschaftserlebnis nicht zu kurz
kommen. So lade ich Sie herzlich ein zum Galaabend
im Tipi am Kanzleramt, in dem wir rheinland-pfälzische Kultur vom Vokalensemble „Acca
und Pella“ erleben werden. Schön wäre es auch,
wenn möglichst viele sich am Ophthalmologenlauf
am Freitagmorgen um 7.00 Uhr im Tiergarten
beteiligen, um für einen guten Zweck zu laufen.
Schließlich verspricht für Künstler und Zuhörer die
diesjährige „DOG in Concert“ im Kammermusiksaal
der Philharmonie am Freitagmittag ebenfalls
ein besonderer Höhepunkt zu werden.

Welcome address of the DOG President
Dear colleagues,
It is an honour and a pleasure for me to
welcome you to the 104th annual meeting
of the DOG in Berlin.
This year, our congress is focused on „Ophthalmology in the Ageing Society -
Challenge and Chance“. „Ageing“ is an
umbrella term and has become a mega
trend of our societies. Especially in
Germany with its demographic changes, we, as a
professional organisation, have to cope with the
fact, that many of the diseases that we diagnose
and treat are subject to a very high age progression.
Many scientific presentations will therefore
concentrate on diseases such as macular degeneration,
glaucoma or cataract. However, beyond this
we will try to answer socio-economic questions
and investigate the development of medical
expenses as well as the chances of primary and
secondary prevention.
These themes will have increasing importance in
the years to come. The programme of the symposia
is promising to present ophthalmology at
a high scientific level. But also every day clinical
ophthalmological practice will be covered by “state-of-the-art” presentations which cover the
whole spectrum of ophthalmology. The wetlab
programme has been enlarged considerably and
now includes courses for the advanced phaco
surgeon, glaucoma surgeon and offers the possibility
to learn lamellar keratoplasty.
Support and promotion of young scientists is of
particular importance to me. Thus, as a novelty, this
year we offer courses for career management, on
how to write grant proposals, scientific publications
and how to do a successful scientific presentation.
Probably the most important objective of a meeting
such as ours is to create an atmosphere that
facilitates communication between all groups in
ophthalmology. This will help to exchange new
ideas and concepts for future research and the
development of our society and science all together.
This idea has already been integrated into our
opening ceremony, where we will have a podium
discussion with prominent representatives from
research, politics and economy.
Beyond all scientific sessions, it is very important
to meet socially. Therefore, it is my great pleasure
to invite you to participate in our gala evening in
the „Tipi“ near the chancellor’s office where we
will enjoy culture from Rhineland-Palatinate offered
to us by the vocal ensemble „Acca und Pella“.
We are also looking forward to a considerable
number of participants in our Charity Run on Friday
morning at 7 o’clock in the Tiergarten. Last
but not least, this year’s „DOG in concert“ in the
Kammermusiksaal of the Philharmonie, Friday at
lunch time, will be a highlight both for artists and
audience.

Sehr geehrte Kolleginnen,
sehr geehrte Kollegen,
sehr geehrte Unterstützer und Freunde
der Deutschen Ophthalmologischen
Gesellschaft,
 sehr herzlich lade ich Sie zur 105. Jahrestagung
der Deutschen Ophthalmologischen
Gesellschaft vom 20. bis 23. September
2007 wiederum in die Berliner Metropole
ein. 2007 feiert die Deutsche Ophthalmologische
Gesellschaft ihren 150. Geburtstag.
Der Jubiläumskongress hat daher das Thema„150 Jahre DOG – 150 Jahre Wissenschaftsaustausch
und Innovation in der Augenheilkunde“.
Als älteste medizinische Fachgesellschaft der Welt
wird die Zusammenkunft im kommenden Jahr einerseits
die einzigartigen Traditionen wachrufen, die
untrennbar mit den Namen v. Helmholtz, Donders
und v. Graefe verbunden sind – gleichzeitig wird
dieses Jubiläum den innovativen Charakter unserer
Jahrestagungen unterstreichen, indem neueste klinische
Forschungsergebnisse und die Diskussion
neuer Optionen in Diagnostik und Therapie einen
herausgehobenen Stellenwert einnehmen. Mit uns
werden zahlreiche europäische und außereuropäische
Schwestergesellschaften diesen 150. Geburtstag
der DOG feiern, die ihrerseits durch besondere
inhaltliche Akzente dieser Tagung ein besonderes
Gepräge geben werden.
Heute wird immer deutlicher, dass die Verhütung
von Erblindungen eine globale Aufgabe ist, an der
sich viele DOG-Mitglieder und Organisationen in
Deutschland aktiv beteiligen. Die Perspektiven der
internationalen Ophthalmologie werden daher
ebenfalls einen besonderen Schwerpunkt bilden.
Vor 150 Jahren hat Albrecht v. Graefe in Berlin das
Fundament für die moderne Augenheilkunde
gelegt. Es ist nur zu folgerichtig,wenn wir 2007 im
modernen Berlin dieses Jubiläum begehen und das
innovative Potential der heutigen Augenheilkunde
unter Beweis stellen.

Dear colleagues,
Dear supporters and friends of the German
Society of Ophthalmology,
It is a pleasure for me to invite you to the 105th
annual meeting of the German Society of Ophthalmology
from September 20 to September 23,
2007 in Berlin. In 2007 the German Society of
Ophthalmology will celebrate its 150th anniversary.
Thus the subject of this anniversary congress
will be„150 years of DOG – 150 years of scientific
exchange and innovation in ophthalmology“.
As the world’s most ancient medical professional
association, next year’s congress will evoke unique
traditions intrinsically tied to the names of von
Helmholtz, Donders and v. Graefe and at the same
time this anniversary will emphasise the innovative
character of our annual meetings where
the results of the latest clinical research and the
discussion of new options in diagnostics and
therapy are of high significance.
We will celebrate this 150th anniversary together
with numerous European and non- European affiliated
associations which will contribute to the special
character of the 2007 congress.
Today it is becoming more and more apparent that
the prevention of blindness is a global task in
which many organisations and members of the
DOG are taking an active part. Thus a particular
focus will be on the perspectives of international
ophthalmology.
Albrecht von Graefe 150 years ago has founded the
basis for modern ophthalmology. It is thus only
logical to celebrate this anniversary in Berlin,
where we will demonstrate the innovative potential
of modern ophthalmology.
